1820

The origins of GL events UK

The provenance of GL events UK dates back to 1820 and the foundation of the Peterborough-based events business, Snowdens Marquees. With its origins in rope and tent making on the banks of the river Nene, Snowdens was, from the outset, characterised by quality service and the pursuit of customer satisfaction.

1913 to 1984

The growth of Owen Brown

The Owen Brown story began in 1913 when the eponymous trader began selling ropes, tarpaulins and netting at farmers’ markets in Loughborough and through the Midlands area. The business soon expanded into event supply and Owen Brown Marquees becoming synonymous with quality and reliability. In 1984, Owen Brown acquired Snowdens Marquees.

2002

GL events enters the UK market

The acquisition of Owen Brown (and Snowdens) by the GL events Group in 2002 saw the consolidation of well established and experienced event brands, with international reach, and an aspiration to develop the event infrastructure options available to UK event organisers, and GL events UK has never looked back!

2004

More than just events

While GL events UK’s core business remains supporting events of all kinds, our wider business extends to the provision of temporary buildings for other uses including industrial storage and warehousing, retail and commercial, and sports and leisure.  In 2004, we welcomed the Uttoxeter-based, Tempastor which later became Spaciotempo UK.

Partner with the event experts

GL events UK has been providing infrastructure for over 200 years. Today our portfolio of experience includes some of the most prestigious names in the events calendar, including Cheltenham Festival, The Ryder Cup, Royal Ascot, Silverstone, Goodwood, The Open and Commonwealth Games.
